The song is about an orphaned daughter Sindhu singing at a small social gathering where her mother is with a new family; except for the protagonist who is a family friend, the mother and the rest don't know her identity and while the daughter longs for the relationship with the family, she doesn't wish to disturb the prevailing harmony by raking up the sordid past of her mother. It is about being near yet estranged.
